ABUJA BARBERS MAY KILL A MAN: HOW TIMOTHY NARROWLY SURVIVED THEM
“Two years at Abuja as a resident has taught me a big lesson: always ask for the price of services you are about to receive or you will die of heart attack.
I have been using Emirates and Golden Green barbers at Abuja not minding the 2000 naira they were charging per hair cut because they are neat, corporate and have excellent ambience and panache for Abuja big boys like me (don’t be jealous).
Recently, I decided to try another one near both of them at same Wuse 2. Varieties are the spices of life. I was ushered into an amazing room. While the Berber worked on my head, a lady was busy scrubbing my legs and another lady cut my finger nails. Afterwards, the Berber rubbed something on my face and rinsed it with water. I was so happy and refreshed and vowed internally to retain them as my BERBERS.
When I wanted to pay, they said my bill was 15K. The price for 50 KG of our local rice.
Alarmed by the exorbitant price, I demanded explanations. I was told that what they did to me was a complete corporate package.
Berbing, manicure , pedicure and facial cleansing. I was stunned. I told them point blank that I will not pay since I demanded only hair cut. My anger boiled over when a man who intervened asked them to break down the price for me. To cut my finger nails was 4K, washing my legs and whatever, another 4K , washing my face was unbelievably another 4K and my hair cut was 3K.
I told them that even if I fell inside a pit latrine, do they need that amount to make me clean? Others told them they were wrong for not telling me what they wanted to do and the prices. The manager intervened and asked me to pay 5K which I did grudgingly. I may be an Abuja big Boy as they call us but am always a Lagos Bobo with an Anambra Aka gum. Am ready for them for this Abuja. Akum ga elu ulo biko. Uwa bu pawpaw”
