The building, in an area near Itafaji market on Lagos Island, collapsed in mid-morning. A building housing a school on the top floor collapsed and this has caused trauma and havoc to virtually all parties affected by the collapse. Police said they believed scores of people were trapped and more than 7 people died.

There’s too much heartbreak in the world and I’m sorry, but it’s not okay. 💔💔💔 When the Building collapse happened on Wednesday, I was horrified at the amount of things many societies take for granted—our infrastructure, education, healthcare....the list is endless— #AriseNews was immediately at the scene of the incident but I knew that We needed to be at the hospital were victims were being taken...cause its important to reassure people that 1) we weren’t just looking for a story and 2) that there is HOPE for this country—see the number of civilians that worked hand in hand with Lagos to rescue those people! See the number of concerned residents in area that waited to see that their neighbor or relatives’ children were safe! See how the various hospitals in the area had to work together to respond to the situation! I know that a lot more needs to be done, but I’ve also realized that it’s times like this that people come together and become HUMAN. And it’s times like this that governments gets to understand that it’s not okay to overlook any community no matter how small....Before they let us into the emergency center, I promised not to film it live, because it’s not just a story; it was REAL people and the doctors were doing their best to manage the pressure and any wrong footage would make the panic worse! I can’t unsee that trauma and fear in people’s faces that day...and This brings me back to society, and the things that are not okay! It’s not okay to let an incident like this repeat itself EVER AGAIN! I want to tell stories about positive growth and impact in Africa, please make help me make it easy...💔
