In celebration of International Women’s Day, Guinness Nigeria’s Spirited Women’s Network presented successful women in their various careers to discuss the theme ‘Balance for Better: . The session held on the 7th of March at Guinness Nigeria’s Ogba Brewery.
Speaking at the event, Baker Magunda; Guinness Nigeria’s Managing Director said “At Guinness Nigeria, we are always working towards promoting gender diversity. This is reflected in our values as an organization. This is why we have taken time out today to celebrate and encourage women in recognition of International Women’s Day.”
The keynote speaker, Laure Beaufils, British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, spoke to the event theme on women’s rights and gender balance, just before a highly interactive panel discussion.
Contributors to the discussion included;Mo Abudu, media mogul, filmmaker and owner of Ebony Life TV; Yemisi Ayeni, Non-Executive Director, Guinness Nigeria Plc and chairman, NASCON Allied Industries Plc.; Dr. Awele Elumelu, CEO Avon Medical Services and Trustee at the Tony Elumelu Foundation; Tara Fela-Durotoye, CEO House of Tara International, and Nkiru Olumide-Ojo, Head, Marketing & Communications, Standard Bank Group Africa Region & Author of “The Pressure Cooker”. This informative and insightful session saw speakers share their experiences across industries and what it takes to thrive in a male dominated world.
Other highlights of the day included the unveiling of the “Be Inspired” video which featured the female members of the Guinness Nigeria Leadership team; Bola Olajomi-Otubu, Human Resources Director; Adebola Adenike, Marketing Director; and Viola Graham-Douglas, Corporate Relations Director; a Success Workshop facilitated by Nkiru Olumide-Ojo, Author of “The Pressure Cooker” and founder of a female social development organization called the LightHouse Women’s Network; a beauty and lifestyle tutorial where representatives of House of Tara International gave attendees make-up and head gear (gele) lessons; and a Health and Fitness class hosted by Fitness Coach Kemi Longe of KaysFit Club. The impactful day ended with an evening of bonding activities such as Karaoke and cocktails.
