Girl Like Viana! UFC Fighter Turns the Tables on Robber With a Cardboard Gun

A female UFC fighter left a robber bruised and bloodied after he tried to rob her using a cardboard gun.

Brazilian star Polyana Viana was waiting for an Uber in Jacarepagua, Rio de Janeiro, when the thief ordered her to hand over her phone, warning that he was armed.

But the 26-year-old lashed out, kicking and punching him before putting him in a martial arts chokehold while she waited for police to arrive.

UFC president Dana White shared a photo of the man's gruesome facial injuries after his beating. Another shows the 'weapon' was actually just a cardboard cut-out.

He thought he had found a woman waiting alone for an Uber. He had actually found a UFC fighter.

In January 2019, Brazilian UFC fighter Polyana Viana was waiting outside her apartment in Rio de Janeiro when a man approached, asked for the time and then demanded her phone, claiming he was armed. Viana said she noticed the supposed weapon felt too soft.

That was the moment the robbery took an entirely different direction.

Viana told MMA Junkie that she stood up, threw two punches and a kick, knocked the man down and then put him in a rear-naked choke. She subsequently kept him restrained while people called the police.

And the alleged weapon?

A cardboard cut-out of a gun.

UFC president Dana White later shared a photograph of Viana alongside the bloodied man, calling the attempted robbery a very bad idea. The man was taken for medical treatment before being taken to a police station, and Viana filed a report.

She said she assessed the situation, noticed how close the man was and reasoned that if it really were a gun, he wouldn't have time to draw it. She then acted.

The story isn't really “UFC fighter beats up robber.”

It is:The robber made a decision based on what he thought he saw, and he got the person completely wrong.

How often do people mistake someone's appearance for their actual capacity?

Girl like Viana.

She told MMA Junkie how the man asked her for the time and then saw he was not going to leave.

'So I already moved to put my cell phone in my waist. And then he said, "Give me the phone. Don’t try to react, because I’m armed".

'Then he put his hand over [a gun], but I realised it was too soft.'

'He was really close to me. So I thought, "If it’s a gun, he won’t have time to draw it". So I stood up I threw two punches and a kick.

'He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke. Then I sat him down in the same place we were before and said, "Now we’ll wait for the police"'. Girl like VIANA!
