WRoheemah Arogundade and Kehinde Lawal studied at the University of Obafemi Awolowo to study English.
The 43rd edition of their school, women were announced as the first class graduates of the department.
This occurred after 21 years that the department produced a first-class student. Surprisingly, the 2 women ended up with the same point: 4.56.
In a chat with Pulse, the women said they were only working towards achieving the best and for Kehinde, the desperate zeal to finish with a first class grew when she made a 5.0 CGPA in her 200 level 2nd semester result.
While they were both working to achieve their goals, the women were oblivious of each other even though they were in the same department and attended same classes. They became friends when they started hearing rumours about each other’s results. Rather than compete, they formed a force and studied together.
“There was no competition of any kind, instead, we always met to discuss difficult topics and explain them to one another”, Roheemah told Pulse.
Both women did not think that they did anything differently from their mates; however, they revealed that they put in more efforts and worked smart.
Hoping that hers and Roheemah’s achievement would prove a point that nothing is impossible, Kehinde notes that the why the department did not produce a first class graduate in 21 years may be due to the discouraging orientation fresh students.
She said that students in the department may feel comfortable having average grades because everyone believes the first class grade is impossible.
While Roheemah hopes to go into academics and write stories, Kehinde would love to explore opportunities in the communication field.... spill TEA ☕ Easy on Shade #jaiyeorie
