51 Whales Die After Being Stranded On A Beach
Fifty-one pilot whales died after being stranded on a beach in the Chatham Islands of New Zealand.  The mass encorado means that more than 200 whales died in separate incidents during last week in the region.  The Conservation Department of New Zealand claims that between 80 and 90 whales were found in the Hanson Bay area on Thursday.  Several dozens managed to recover, but 50 were found dead and one had to be knocked down.  "There was no chance of being able to successfully save the remaining whale. Unfortunately, the decision was made for euthanasia. It was the most human thing to do," said Chatham Islands operations manager, Dave Carlton.
