Delta State born singer, Fruitful Mekwunye, aka Professor, has been making music for as long as he has lived has completed work on his debut album which is expected to drop any time soon. In a chat with Potpourri, Professor explained that the struggle for survival has been a setback for his music career.
‘Music is inborn, it is a talent and when you have the talent, it is either you actualize it earlier enough or later. In my own case, I was supposed to have actualized mine in my early age but people called musicians hopeless, jobless and lazy people in those days.
You rarely could see talent hunt shows like we have these days, so most dreams were buried”, he said. He added, “I had the zeal to release and play music but no help was coming forth, so, I had to look for menial jobs to sustain me. What I believe is that a dream is not dead until you are dead.
That is what I have proven.” Titled ‘Ogo Oluwa’, (Glory of God), the album which was coordinated, contributed to and produced by versatile Juju singer, Yinka Best, has four tracks; ‘Iyawo mi gbadura fun mi’, a Yoruba highlife aimed at making family ties stronger, ‘Bed of roses’, an R & B flavor, ‘Africa’, a calypso soca with reggae mix done to remind Africans of their identity and ‘Nigeria’, a tune tailored to address ills of the country.
Professor who is the Ekwueme of Ubulu Uku kingdom in Delta state, a successful business man and philanthropist explained why he has different genres of music in his yet-to-be released album. According to him, his mission is to return the lost glory of music by ensuring he plays songs that are message filled.FOLLOW fb.me/jaiyeorieblog m.me/jaiyeorieblog ... spill TEA ABOUT THE TOPIC ABOVE....
