Disney is developing a live-action fairytale film, titled, “Sadé,” which is centered on life of an African princess, Variety is reporting.
According to Disney, the film , which will be produced by Rick Famuyiwa, was pitched by Ola Shokunbi and Lindsey Reed Palmer, both of whom will co-write the screenplay.
Sadé follows the story of an African child whose kingdom is threatened by a mysterious evil force and accepts her newly discovered magical powers to protect her people, with the help of the kingdom’s prince.
This comes after Marvel’s massive success with “Black Panther,” the superhero film set in the fictional African nation of Wakanda. Black Panther grossed $1.35 billion worldwide, and became the third-highest domestic performer of all time at $700 million.
