The Nigerian athletes took N107,000 home for their efforts in the Asaba 2018 African Athletics Championships.
The Nigeria team reached a third place in the medal table, behind the heavyweights of Kenya and South Africa.
However, the participating athletes fired each other with 107k, while those who were in the camp and did not perform at Asaba went home with empty hands.
An official of the Nigeria Athletics Federation explained that the money was to allow athletes to move to their homes, Vanguard writes.
However, one of the athletes responded that the gesture was inadequate. “How can they give us such an amount? How about those in the US who paid their way to participate and those who have been in camp?”
This comes as AFN president Ibrahim Gusau said that they are looking into ways of not paying athletes allowances just like it is being done in South Africa.
It remains unclear what reward package the AFN has in store for the athletes on conclusion of the 21st Games.FOLLOW Tell A Friend about Jaiyeorie Advertise - jaiyenews@gmail.com ... spill TEA ABOUT THE TOPIC ABOVE.... Easy on Shade #jaiyeorie
