91 Dead as Devastating Earthquake Hits Indonesia

Buildings wrecked by the shaker

At least 91 people have been killed and hundreds injured after a powerful earthquake arrive in the Indonesian island of Lombok. While the tremor of magnitude seven was shallow, it was only 10 km (6.21 miles) below the ground, it damaged thousands of buildings that caused death. There have been more than 130 replicas since the earthquake took place on Sunday morning, forcing civil servants to issue a tsunami warning, which rose after a few hours. It arrives a week after another earthquake that reached the famous tourist destination of Lombok, which killed at least 16 people.A spokesman for Indonesia’s disaster mitigation agency told the AFP that many buildings had been affected in Lombok’s main city of Mataram.
Residents of the city described a powerful jolt that sent people fleeing into the streets and scrambling for safety.
“Everyone immediately ran out of their homes, everyone is panicking,” one resident named as Iman said.
Patients from the city hospital, and also at the Denpasar de Bali hospital, were evacuated and treated by doctors in the streets, already littered with rubbish. Indonesia is prone to earthquakes because it is in the ring of fire: the line of frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions that circulate practically all over the Pacific.
