And this true gentleman would do his best to give me what I wanted always reminding me that he loved me. He said something which became a life lesson for me. He would say, "Leslie, you have to let me love you the way I know how". At the time, I thought that was a selfish statement. I would argue, if you loved someone shouldn't you do what makes them happy?

It took about 10 yrs of being together to fully understand and believe this lesson whole heartedly. Truth is, when you love someone, you let them be free. Free to be who they are. The person isn't there to complete you or your life. Each of us are complete already so it's not the job of another human being to give you air to breathe and then also help you breathe. If you want to have fun, go sky diving, go to nice places, receive fresh flowers, drink fine wine and chocolate, even go to see a movie, it is not the duty of a man to suddenly become a magician or mind reader and make all those dreams come true.
He chosing to share my dreams, believe in them or partake in them would only happen when I myself start believing in my dreams and living them. .
When we got married I was still hoping he would learn to love me the way I was used to. Well I thank God he didnt, because what I was used to was for lack of a better word toxic. Constant attention, constantly together, over loving till I love you die. Basically needy love. If you didn't need me or want me or call me always then you don't love me. But really, thank God for hubby loving me the way he knew how. His love makes me grow in many ways.
Hubby would say "you are my best friend." I would say, "I don't want you to be my friend I want you to be my lover." Guess I was craving romance like in the movies. Let me get to the point. What you see now is real love and friendship. He is my #bestfriend and the friendship has to exist to sustain true love that binds. He really is my biggest fan and I am so grateful to always have him on my side supporting me and cheering me on.
