Malian migrant, Mamoudou "Spider-Man" Gassama awarded the city's 'Grand Vermeil' medal

Gassama's extraordinary feat on May 26 when he climbed 4 floors with his bare hands to save a child propelled him to the global superstar.   The Malian migrant Mamoudou "Spider-Man" Gassama was awarded the Grand Vermeil medal of the city by the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo in the hall of the city council of Paris.


The Malian migrant, 22, arrived illegally in France in September 2017 and had been working in the construction industry before his Spider-Man-style climbing.

He began a new life as a trainee fireman after signing a contract with the Paris service.
