Donald Glover might be in talks to play Willy Wonka in a brand new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory spin-off movie.
According to Collider, Warner Bros. has put an American actor and musician into a shortlist of stars for the iconic role - featuring Ryan Gosling and Ezra Miller.
This project came from Harry Potter producer David Heyman, screenwriter Simon Rich (Man Seeking Woman) and was pushed by Paul King, the British journalist behind Paddington.
Instead of a remake of the 1971 film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (with Gene Wilde), however, the new movie looks set to a completely different direction.
The sources indicate that it is a prequel to the original movie - adapted from the 1964 book Roald Dahl of the same name - exploring the story of Wonka's origins and how he came to get his magic factory.
"How did he amass his fortune, and perhaps more importantly, how did he meet those Oompa Loompas?," Collider asks.
Glover, starring Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, may be an unexpected frontrunner for Wonka's role but he is actively pursuing the role. He is seen shouting at the Simba to revive the live Lion Lion's action - and currently shot during three of his FX comedy-drama Atlanta. If you want to know what Glover describes as a unique dating millionaire with a real estate plot, nothing more than "Teddy Perkins" from the second season of his award-winning series, Atlanta.
