Two siblings, Olufemitan Olaitan 9 and Oluwafifunmi Olaitan 7, were found dead inside a non-functional freezer in the Eyin Ala area of Akure, capital of Ondo State. April 12th.
According to reports, Mrs. Olubunmi Olaitan, the mother of the deceased, had left her home to go shopping. She returned to meet her two sons in the non-functional freezer and set off an alarm. No one could explain how the two elementary students entered the freezer and smothered before giving up.
While some residents suspect that someone has killed the children and thrown their bodies in the freezer, others believe that the children were able to play in the nonfunctional freezer and locked themselves inside while they there was no one at home to rescue the children.
Confirming the incident, the state police public relations officer (PPRO), Femi Joseph said there was no record that the boys were killed, saying that the command was made no arrests on the case.
"We did not suspect any foul play because it seemed like the kids were playing in the freezer and they were locked in the process, when there was no one at home to open the door for them."
The remains of the boys were deposited in a morgue.
