Shakira has handed over more than 20 million euros ($ 24.6 million) to the Spanish tax authorities, according to a report released Tuesday.
Shakira, who is a Barcelona player's partner, Gerard Piqué was accused of not paying taxes despite being a resident between 2011 and 2014.
The Catalan daily El Periodico reported that the award-winning Colombian singer had paid the money "to settle part of the debt claimed by the Spanish tax authorities", corresponding to what it should have done for 2011.
The tax authorities have lodged a formal complaint with prosecutors in Barcelona accusing him of not paying taxes, triggering an investigation, told AFP the company José Miguel, spokesman of the prosecution.
The official complaint, however, covers only the period from 2012 to 2014, as the deadline to prosecute the alleged tax offenses in 2011 has expired.
In a relationship since 2011 with FC Barcelona's central defender Gerard Pique, with whom she has two sons, the 41-year-old has transferred her official residence to the Catalan city in 2015.
Until then, it was in the Bahamas.
But "that does not correspond to reality, with the children at school in Barcelona and his partner here," the company said, adding that prosecutors will decide in June whether to continue the case.
Shakira's representatives say that until 2014, she won most of her money on international tours and does not spend more than six months a year in Spain - a prerequisite for being an official resident from the country.
