Minister promises to hunt S3xual charity predators as 80 new incidents emerge

In the last two weeks, charities have reported 80 new "saving incidents" to the Charity Commission, International Development Secretary Penny Mordaunt said today.  Some 26 charities have reported to the Charity Commission unreported backup incidents, 7 of which occurred in the past year.  They include the "full spectrum" of incidents in which people have been injured or have risked harm.  But the watchdog will not reveal the names of the charities involved until further investigation has taken place.  The new figures come as charity leaders gather at a summit in London to find ways to tackle safeguarding in the aid sector.  The summit was created following the scandal surrounding sexual exploitation by Oxfam workers in Syria and Haiti.  At the opening of the summit, Ms. Mordaunt said it was an "awakening" for the sector.

And in a message to the “predatory individuals” seeking to exploit the charity sector, she warned: “We will find you. We will bring you to justice.

"Your time is up.”
