The Women Elite Sports Empowerment Initiative (WESIE) was founded in 2012 by Miss Funke E. Adeniji who started playing basketball with her teens and won a series of athletic and personal challenges to work with her from college level basketball at UK in division 1, premiere league of the UK for women. His hunger to learn and improve as a player led to a short stint in Australia, after which he returned to the UK to play for Sheffield Hatters whom he helped win back to back championships.
While experiencing some success, the series of challenges he faces on his journey leads him to conclude that many women have limited options and opportunities to achieve their full potential as players; This understanding will change in his life forever. She decides to set up WESIE and deserves as a basketball coach with the goal of creating opportunities inside and outside the court for female athletes to achieve their full potential.
Her experience as a clinical pharmacist with an interest in Global Health Policies has also been sensitive to her current health challenges faced by millions around the world in the context of struggling health care systems, namely which is across Africa. As he attended international health conference, he realized that he could easily combine his efforts to help women excel in sport while making a platform to improve the health and wellbeing of participants and their wider community, starting with Nigeria. There is immense affection for WESIE events in Nigeria and has become an effective tool for health intervention there. Nigerian women, and African women altogether, face the same challenges that women in sports around the world face but problems are raised due to weaker infrastructure and lack of government support. By creating local opportunities for these women to excel and reap the full benefits of sports in their own communities WESIE empowers these women in their communities. Many young women who participate are considered a high risk group for HIV-like illnesses so WESIE's events serve as an effective mobilizing and interactive tool to deliver health messages and welfare.
WESIE was founded in the motto 'To Inspire, Empower, and Enable' to encourage communities to live healthier and productive lives, the founder of WESIE recently published a 'Truth About Health Exposed' a holistic health guide to support people in their quest to live healthy. He also hosts a podcast called 'The Ma Titia Podcast' under the name of "Ma Titia" (which means the tribe of Efik of Nigeria), where he addresses health topics as well as the issues outlined in his book. Book exposures and related activities will go towards the progress of WESIE vision and outreach capacity.
