GREED ......Reverend Father docked for collecting N11.7m from daughter’s suitor

A reverend father, Moses Emonena, was brought to trial in Igbosere District Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N, 750, 000.00 from his daughter's suitor on the pretext of giving him his hand in marriage.  The police alleged that Enmonena, a clergyman of the Church of the Assembly of God in Warri, Delta, married her daughter to another man after receiving payment from the plaintiff, Samuel Oladele Fatai. Emonena, 55, is on trial on two charges for obtaining money under false pretenses before Chief Magistrate Folashade Botoku, reports Tbe Nation.  Prosecutor Henry Obiazi, Superintendent of Police, said the offense violated sections 411 and 314 (3) of the Penal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and punishable under the same. Obiazi alleged that Enmonena committed the crime between November 2016 and March 2017 in Egbeda, a suburb of Lagos.  He said that Fatai had reported to the police that he had approached Emonena for permission to marry his daughter, but Father Reverend had given him several expensive conditions to complete before he could grant him.  The complainant said that he was shocked that after fulfilling all the conditions in the amount of N11,750,000.00, Emonena married his daughter to another man. Emonena pleaded not guilty to the charges.  Chief Magistrate Botoku granted him a N1million bond with two sureties in the same sum.  She returned the accused to prison pending the fulfillment of bail conditions and adjourned until 27 April.
