John Legend and his pregnant supermodel wife Chrissy Teigen were evicted
from their Friday SoHo rental amidst claims the expensive property was an illegal short-term lease.
The couple were suddenly seen packing their belongings and leaving after the cops and city officials knocked on the door of the Sullivan Street House featured in one of Teigen's Instagram posts on Jan. 27.
Thirty-two-year-old Teigen, who is due to come in June, walked out the door wearing a hooded bathrobe and fur slippers, her main weather defenses.
A woman staying in the basement apartment of the property said the police first knocked on her door Friday morning, saying they were investigating a report from an illegal sub-lessor.
"The cops were there earlier in the morning, they rang our bell and knocked at the windows, they inquired about an illegal Airbnb," Katherine Haddon, a Boston tourist who was visiting Manhattan with her husband and baby for the weekend, told the Daily News.
"They asked us how big was the place we were staying, what was its configuration and the number of bedrooms," she said. "They had a complaint from a neighbor."

They were inquiring about an illegal Airbnb,” Katherine Haddon, 39, a tourist from Boston who was visiting Manhattan with her husband and baby for the weekend, told the Daily News.“They were asking how large the place we’re staying in is, its set-up and the number of bedrooms,” she said. “They had had a complaint from a neighbor.”
A spokeswoman for Airbnb said that while the building’s owner has rented properties with the company in the past, this time, the celebs did not use their service.
