One month after the 72 victims of the new year's attacks conducted by Fulani shepherds were laid to rest at the capital of the state Bench of Makurdi. Another mass burial was performed, this time at Okpokwu LG of Benue State. The deadly attack on the Omusu community last week left at least 24 dead. According to a statement issued by Okpokwu Local Government Area Chairman yesterday, Mr. Francis Ogwuche, "a mass requiem will be held for victims of Saint Bernard Catholic Church, Ugwu Okpoga on Thursday, March 15, 2018. "After that the corpses will be given to various families for burial in their communities especially to married women according to the traditions and traditions of the people." Ogwuche, who collaborated with the Omusu community because of the tragedy, assured that the victims would not die in vain while the efforts to bring the guilty of the murders of justice would be strengthened.  The chairman of the council also commended Governor Samuel Ortom for measures put in place to assess the insecurity in the area and to ensure the peaceful burial of the victims.
