Michelle Obama’s memoir titled Becoming Michelle Obama, will be published in North America on November 13 and will appear simultaneously in 24 languages worldwide.
In making the announcement, Penguin Random House publishers’ chief executive Markus Dohle called Mrs Obama “one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era.” In an unusual gesture, one million copies are to be donated in the Obama family’s name to “children in need,” the publisher’s statement said.
Growing up in a modest Chicago neighborhood, Obama challenged a teacher's advice that she "put her visions too high," applying and accepted at Princeton University, then graduating from Harvard Law School. She met Barack Obama while he was a trainee and she was his advisor at a Chicago law firm, and they quickly married. She became her closest confidante during her political ascent. In the White House, in the spotlight, she defended the rights of women and girls and campaigned for Americans to live healthier lives. The publisher's announcement describes "becoming" as "an unusually intimate account of a woman of soul and substance who has consistently defied expectations." He said Obama would embark on an international book tour when "Becoming" will come out with details to announce. The former first couple last year negotiated an agreement with Penguin Random House, valued at more than $ 60 million, for the books of the two Obamas. This amount would be the highest ever paid for books by former presidents or their spouses. The output is certain to attract a very great interest, and sales. "Becoming" will be published in the United States and Canada by Crown Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Random House, and in Great Britain by Viking, a Penguin print.
