This is a terrible moment when a newborn kid was snatched while sleeping next to her mother at a hospital in India.
CCTV recordings show that an unidentified woman entered the nursing home and took the baby, just six hours after birth. By the time the new mother woke up, she could not find the child next to her and raised the alarm.
Mohini Mohan Bhavar, 19, went to Thane Civil Hospital, where her healthy baby was safely delivered. In the early morning hours, as she slept with her baby, she approached her, claiming that her mother-in-law was sitting outside, asking her to bring her baby so that her mother, tired of work, allowed her to take a baby.
Mohini said: "At 1am a woman approached me claiming my mother-in-law sitting outside was asking for the child, and took him. When I woke up around 4 am I saw my child was missing. My family members sitting outside were unaware of the woman."When we inquired with the hospital authorities, they said they were unaware of any such thing."
Mohini and her horrified family reported the case to the police who have launched a kidnapping investigation. They are examining CCTV from inside and outside the hospital in a bid to identify the woman. A clip shows a woman walking away from the camera wearing a pink saree, which she pulls over her head.
A police spokesman said: "The footage shows that the woman took the child from the first bed of the ward and immediately left the hospital. The victim's bed was close to the exit door and we suspect it is a planned crime. We are investigating the matter to nab the accused."
