In a live interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, John said, “My priorities have changed.” He said he needs to dedicate more time to raising his family, his two children who will be 10 and 8 years old when he steps off the road.
“I can’t physically do the traveling anymore,” he said. “I want to be at home. I really want to spend time with my children at home. I’ve had an incredible life, but life is all about change.”
The pop legend hinted at Wednesday’s news in a tribute video on his Twitter page, announcing he is “embarking on the next phase of his creative journey.”
“I’ve finally decided where my future lies.”
The multiple Grammy award winner is scheduled to perform a duet with Miley Cyrus at the Grammy Awards this weekend at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
He’s also performing at a post-Grammy concert on January 30, “Elton John: I’m Still Standing-A Grammy Salute,” which will include performances by Sam Smith, Chris Martin, John Legend and Keith Urban.
