Enugu Prison Inmate Emerges Overall Best PG Student Of National Open University Of Nigeria

Chukwununso Nomeh, an inmate of the Enugu Maximum Security prison, has emerged the overall best post-graduate student of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prisons Special Study Centres nationwide.

According to Vanguard, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Prison Service in Enugu State, Mr. Chukwuemeka Monday, made the disclosure in a statement issued in the state on Friday. Monday said the inmate who was convicted and sentenced in 2010 gained admission for the Masters in Business Administration (MBA) programme.

He stated that Nomeh had a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.80. He recalled that one of the ex-detainees at the same center, Theophilus Adeniyi, was the best graduate student in 2014 while incarcerated.  The spokesman said he was currently pursuing his doctorate at one of the country's universities. The head of the Enugu study center, CSP Kelvin Iloafonsi, said two other inmates also graduated from the NOUN postgraduate school.  Iloafonsi said one of them had been released since. The state prison controller, Ndubuisi Ogbodo, urged the detainees to register for the NOUN and to embrace the transformation mantra of the prison's Comptroller General, Ja'afaru Ahmed.  Ogbodo said the transformation agenda focuses on training and retraining of staff and inmates. The prison controller also called on the public to accept ex-detainees as reformed and socially responsible members of society.  He said that their continued rejection would only bring them back to crime. ...
