Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun pledged to provide a salary increase for officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). Adeosun made this promise during the celebration of International Customs Day at Gwagwalada Customs Command and Staff College, FCT, Friday in Abuja. The theme of the event was "A safe business environment for economic development". The minister was represented by Ms. Oladudumi Biosola, the ministry's director of finance. Adeosun urged NCS agents to make more effort to exceed the target in terms of revenue. She said the business security environment was essential for business, adding that the security aspect of the role of Customs was as important as its role in revenue. "This year's theme coincides with the federal government's initiative to make business easier. "We understand that the initiative is already paying dividends based on the fact that we have improved the World Bank's ranking system by 24 points," said Adeosun. She congratulated the NCS for its remarkable success in guaranteeing national security in recent years. According to her, the seizure of arms and ammunition in seaports was proof that the Service is aware of its responsibilities. The minister is also committed to giving NCS the support it needs to succeed.
