Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ibe Kachikwu denied that he sent President Muhammadu Buhari a note about the gas shortage, saying the memo was false. In the note, it was reported that Kachikwu would have alerted President Buhari about the likely shortage of gasoline; the memo was dated July 27th. The Ministry of Petroleum Resources, reacted to this in a statement signed by the press director, Mr. Idang Alibi, that the message and content should be ignored. The declaration reads as follows: "Our attention was drawn to a message circulating on social media in a press note from the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, to the President on the oil crises" "The message and its content is wrong." "This is not the time for diversion problems, as the oil sector is facing a serious national problem, and we are focused on the collaborative search for an urgent solution to this crisis." The Minister of State continues to monitor the current fuel situation and to work with the NNPC and the DPR to continue to carry out the ministerial directives already communicated to flood the product market and prevent and punish any attempt at sabotage by a culprit. "The Minister of State appreciates the suffering that Nigerians are experiencing but she calls for calm and understanding because the NNPC is doing everything possible to put an immediate end to this situation of energy crisis".
