On Tuesday, Jenny Durkan officially became 56th Mayor Seattle and the first woman to hold office in almost a hundred years.   The emerald city welcomed Durkan, who was also the first open lesbian mayor, and a solemn opening ceremony was held at five locations spread out in Seattle. Durkan was for the first time stopped at the Seattle Ethiopian Community Center, where he was officially convicted by Judge Richard Jones.   Bertha Knight Landes, the last woman who has held the mayor's seat in Seattle more than 90 years ago, served in the Seattle City Council, and then was elected Mayor in 1926.
