Pope Francis on Wednesday told the priests and bishops who photographed with their cell phones during the Mass saying that they should focus on God.
Franjo is tens of thousands of people in his weekly publication at St. Peter "raised his heart, not his cell phone, to photograph", calling for prayer prayer in the Roman Catholic Mass.
He described the use of cell phones during the Mass as "a very ugly thing, which makes me very sad when I celebrate mass here in the square or basilica and see so many cell phones.
"Not just believers but some priests and even bishops.
"The mass does not show you so remember, no cell phone," he said, encouraging laughter and applause from the crowd.
Francis, the leader of the world's 1.2 billion Roman Catholic, has regularly called on believers to be more spiritual and to be humble to his priests and bishops.
Shortly after the 2013 election, he said he encouraged him to see priests driving cars and want to use the latest smartphone.
The Pope is driving in a simple blue Ford Focus and it is not known that he has ever used the mobile phone in public since his election.
