Vigilante group Nigeria said on Thursday that current arrangements and structures in Nigeria's police can not adequately address the security challenges facing the country.
This statement is contained in a statement that the group put on Abu Thursday, saying it is through effective co-operation and partnership between the group and the police to address such security challenges adequately.
Members of the group, about 50 of them Thursday, participated in the plenary session of the House of Representatives to testify and make proposals for a law trying to determine the suit.
However, consideration of the report was in the five other laws that broke up until the next week.
In a statement jointly signed by the General Commander of VGN, Ali Sokoto and Chief of General Staff of VGN, Navy Capt A.B. Umar (rtd), VGN, said the police also needed local community co-operation to tackle security challenges such as kidnapping and terrorism.
"We do not neglect the fact that the level of crime has changed in Nigeria, from drug to rape, gangs of violence to murder, burglary, armed robbery and kidnapping.
"The nature of crimes such as kidnapping and terrorism can not be sufficiently addressed by conventional conventional police structures and modus operandi without the cooperation of the local community.
"Even the concept of centralized police management helped isolate it further from the public they serve. In many cases, policemen are set far away from their localities and are therefore" outsiders "in the community they are serving," VGN said.
