Former first lady, Patience Jonathan files a N2bn suit against EFCC for violation of her fundamental rights
Patience Jonathan, wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, filed a lawsuit against N2 billion legal entities against the Commission for Economic and Financial Crime (EFCC).   In a lawsuit filed at the Federal High Court of Abuja, the former first lady is being ordered to pay compensation for N2 billion against EFCC for breach of its fundamental rights.   Patience Jonathan claims in a lawsuit that EFCC is constantly mistreating him through negative media publications, denigrating and degrading his person with a corrupt, no-call, trial or judgment by the court. She wants the court to state that harassment is mentioned as a violation of her rights under Article 37 of the 1999 Constitution.   It also seeks a declaration that the "non-selective" freezing of her bank accounts and her relatives EFCC under the guise of criminal investigation of criminal proceeds, without any call or examination by the defendant, a violation of her rights to her property and a fair trial guaranteed under Article 44. and Article 36 para. 1 of the 1999 Constitution.   He also requested a "court order preventing EFCC or any person acting on his behalf from further violating" her fundamental rights. The case was assigned to Justice John Tsoho and will be on November 16, 2017 for hearing.
