Uyo's specialist hospital, Akwa Ibom State, was closed just two years after the government of former governor Godswill Akpabio was built and commissioned. Almost all health workers in the hospital were foreigners, mostly from India, reported the Premium Times. Mr. Akpabio praised that the hospitals he described as "world class" were better and better in status than the hospital university hospital in Nigeria and will promote medical tourism in the country. A multi-million dollar hospital was closed in September after his private executives broke the contract with the state government and withdrew from the facility, the Premium Times said. When the Premium Times visited the hospital on Monday night, the facility was locked; apart from security officials, no one person was inside his massive buildings. Visitors should not be allowed to enter. Some people who worked in the hospital told the Premium Times that private managers - Cardiocare Medical Services Ltd - left over unresolved issues that are bound to finance by the state government. State Health Commissioner Dominic Ukpong also confirmed on Wednesday that the hospital was closed. Pretty sad. ...
