Kenya Rerun Election: Uhuru Kenyatta’s Victory Tainted By Low Turnout

#mynameiskay

President Uhur Kenyatta moves home to victory as a result of Kenya's re-election on Friday. But this is a presumed victory that has been hit by earlier estimates of responses to less than 35 percent, compared to a response of 80 percent in the August 8th elections. Polls voted by voters showed that they welcomed the call of opposition leader Raila Oding to stay at home. The first elections in August had been annulled by the courts for procedural irregularities, denying Kenyatta a simple victory over his long-standing political rival. If the expected legal challenges fail to clear the way out of the crisis, including a possible re-command, the stage is set for the long-lasting and economically damaging political stalemate between Kenyatta and Oding camps. "Unless the courts fail to resolve the election, Kenyatta will move forward without a clear mandate, and Oding will continue the strategy of protest whose chances for success in these circumstances are very low," analyst International Crisis Group Murith Mutig said. The vote passed on Thursday without affecting the pro-Kenyatta area, but was hindered by clashes between police and opposition fans throwing stones into four pro-Oding County where polling stations were prevented from opening. The division was neatly trapped in local media, along with Standard, a leading tabloid, titled "One Kenyan, two faces".
