The UN Security Council has issued a resolution on the importance of reforming UN peacekeeping operations to ensure that they become responsive, effective and transparent with several other subregions on the continent.
Instability is still the major cause of concern in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic and the South Sudan, where most of the soldiers are deployed.
"We have to admit the policy championships so that peacekeeping operations are deployed in support of active diplomatic efforts, not as a substitute. If we can better work on prevention, mediation and peace building, we can reduce unrealistic and dangerous demands on our colleagues in uniform," he said. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
The African Union wants to become more proactive and insists on its implications for all decisions relating to peace operations on the continent.
"Let me strategically and decisively confirm the partnership between our two organizations specifically on financial resolutions, which will help us avoid frequent criticisms.
For a few years now, criticisms have been too much theoretical and encouraging bureaucracy that makes it difficult to achieve the results sought, "said President of the Commission of the African Union, Moussa Faki.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also called for an assessment of ongoing peace operations to see how they can improve to effectively address the challenges.
He promised that progress would be made in implementing reforms in the coming months with the consent of African representatives.
