A 23-year-old man accused of abducting, murdering and then eating his victim in KwaBhaca - previously, Frere died on Tuesday morning. Aphiwe Mapekula is said to be dead at Nelson Mandela Central Hospital, where he was taken after being shot by the police who tried to arrest him. The health department provincial spokesman Sizwe Kupelo confirmed death. "He was admitted to Nelson Mandela Central Hospital after being transferred from Madzikane KaZulu Hospital with a gunwound and needed emergency surgery. Unfortunately he died in the early hours of Tuesday at 4.35pm," said Kupelo. Mapekula was alleged to have abducted a 35-year-old woman, identified as Thembisa Masumpa, from the city center, taking him to her home before killing her and eating her meat. According to reports, the police were called a crime scene on Saturday, where the 35-year-old woman had been beheaded. Police said the suspect Mapekula had a busy feeding on the dead body. He apparently ignored several warning shots to deter him, and even when he was shot and injured in his arm, leg and stomach he continued to eat the woman's meat.
