Egyptian police arrested a man who allegedly admitted having killed an 85-year-old mother after his wife complained about her. However, his sister claimed to be innocent.
Zeinab as-Sayyid Mahfouz died at a hospital in Alexandria on September 15. Reports of the son who beat her to death caused anger at social media in Egypt, with people who were looking for a harsh punishment for him.
The first reports of the death of a woman's wife indicated that the accused husband's wife complained to his mother, after which she brutally beaten her mother to please her.
Then she left her unconscious and bloody mother at home to go out to dinner with her wife. The neighbors noticed that the blood was pouring out of the house and entered the house to find a woman who was lying unconscious with bark marks on her face.
They went to the hospital where she later died. The report also states that the son and his wife tried to escape the city after they found out about their mother's death but were arrested by security forces.
He also allegedly admitted a crime in the police. However, the eldest daughter of the deceased, Raya al-Araby, told al-Arabiya.net that her mother had died of a stroke and that her brother should not be blamed.
She said her mother had been living with her brother and his wife for five years, and she was grateful to her punicist. Rajaa added that the online campaign against her brother seeking a strict punishment for him was directed at the darkening of the family image.
She said her brother was hospitalized for the first time on September 13 for a stroke and died two days later.
When asked about bruises on her mother's eyes, Rajaa said her mother collapsed after a stroke-induced stroke. Because of the fall, her glasses broke and wrinkled her eyes, she claims.
