The pioneering president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Luther Cishak, has died at the age of 88. This was unveiled by President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday through a tribute he wrote in memory of the late Cishak. According to the tribute, Buhari described the late Reverend as a gentleman who was passionately dedicated to the promotion of peaceful coexistence, tolerance, social harmony and mutual respect between Christians and Muslims in Plateau State and in the country as a whole. President Buhari, in expressing his deep sadness at the death of the pioneer leader of the then Christian Council of Nigeria (now CAN), recalled that in a 2003 crisis that shocked the state, the late Mr. Cishak risked his own life to protect others to be killed by mobs, adding that "this kind of sacrifice for peace is a rare virtue that must be praised by all patriotic Nigerians." Buhari extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and to the Christian Association of Nigeria for the death of what he called "one of the best and greatest religious leaders of Nigeria".
