Olojo Festival Will Change Negative Perception Of African Deities – Ooni

#Nigeria

Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ooni of Ife, has said this year's Olojo festival would be an overall show of African culture to change the negative perception people have about cultural convictions. Ooni gave this call to his palace during the launch of the Olojo Festival in 2017, according to Moses Olafare, Director of Media and Public Affairs. He said the historical background for the deities and the ancestors were all a mandate given by them by God. "Unlike many people inside and outside the continent, the gods and ancestors of the Africans were all God's servants who did exceptionally well in delivering on the mandate given to them by God," Ooni was quoted as saying. "The holy crown, considered the world's oldest crown, is worn by Ooni once a year. Olojo is the celebration of the first twilight and dawn. "I will carry your crown and take a trip to Oke Mogun, the place where the first dusk and dawn happened." He also added that the global festival demanded a proper education of the younger generation about the importance of major cultural celebrations for the yoruba politicians. The festival will include a reorientation workshop on culture, a football competition, Ayo Olopon, a fashion show and a traditional musical evening. He said some members of the black kaucus from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and about 150 other black Americans have already expressed an interest in attending this year's Olojo festival. Ooni is also expected to move into a 7-day seclusion to communicate with his ancestors and pray for the nation. The grand finale of the festival is set to last September 30th
