Knocks For Myanmar Leader Suu Kyi At UN

#Nigeria
Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been criticized and is faced with increasing international pressure for her acts of violence in the state of Rakhine and the refugee crisis of Rohingya. In a speech Tuesday, the de facto leader condemned the abuse of rights around the world, but did not blame the military or address allegations of ethnic cleansing in her country. Leaders and diplomats from several countries have since expressed great disapproval of their stand. More than 400,000 Rohingya fled to Bangladesh since the end of August. The latest riots in an upset Rakhina have caused lethal attacks on police stations across the country last month, accusing the newly-formed militant group, the Ark of Rescue Army Arakan Rohingya. The number of people was killed in military action and there is a widespread indictment that the villages are burning and that Rohingya is expelled. Rohingya, mostly a Muslim minority, has been denied citizenship from the Myanmar government, which says illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. This refers to them as Bengali Muslims. At his first national address on the recent crisis, Ms. Suu Kyi said that there was no conflict or demining in the northern state since 5 September, contrary to what was happening. The Burmese army says its action in Rakhine aimed at removing militants, and has repeatedly denied the targeting of civilians. Witnesses, refugees and journalists have challenged it.
