A fire that killed nine students and injured several others at a girls' school in Kenya the weekend was deliberately started, officials say
The incident at the Moi Girls school in the capital, Nairobi, "was not an accident but a triggering fire," Kenya Education Minister Fred Matiang'i said on Monday.
Matiang'i said the attacks were linked to disputes over appointments of senior officials in schools.
"Most of the investigations are done and I can tell you unequivocally - I have been informed by the police - that it was not an accident," said Mr. Matiang'i at a press conference in Nairobi
Mr. Matiang'i said that the "politicization of school management and responsibility in the education sector" was not "correct," adding that "he was sad that he had lost our children."
Seven girls were killed in the fire on Saturday and two others died after their injuries, he said.
