Karate Team Accuses Officials Of Victimisation

#Nigeria

Anambra's karate team at the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG) has accused officials of victimization and threatened to withdraw from the competition. The team, which represented Nigeria at the African Youth Karate Championship in Cotonou, Benin Republic in August, complained that officials issued the threat in Ilorin on Monday. Team coach Godwin Okoro said, "I do not know why officials treat us this way, maybe because we always win or because I do not have anyone to speak for me." "If they do not want us to compete again, they must tell us that you can see the general response to this injustice," he said. Okoro left the complainants after two of his warriors, Nnadozie Blessing (50kg) and Amarachi Nwafor (55kg) finish the competition in the first and second rounds. He said while Nnadozie's struggle with Delta State's Ogene Waguru was abruptly stopped for the benefit of her opponent; Nwafors point against Vanessa Hart of FCT was denied her. Okoro said it was unfair to sacrifice his team who took the first position in recent national competitions. Also on the official side, Blessing, a former karatefighter said the decisions were not good for the growth of the game. "We played this game in the past, we want to see these children compete fairly and the best appears. "The decision against Anambra was unfortunate and it is clear to everyone here." In response to the complaint, Emma Metu, a member of the jury said that problems were observed in the officer. Metu said that Youth Games was talented and noted that the coach's decision would not affect athletes' rating. He said the federal body would sit to review some decisions to prevent confusion while encouraging coaches to remain calm.
