The Nigerian Customs Service has embargoed 6,000 frozen poultry products and 1, 069 sacks of foreign parboiled rice of 50kg each with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N135.33m.
The goods hidden in four trucks were intercepted by the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), compliance team, Zone C.
The poultry product that was hidden in a truck with tampolin covering from the top and to both sides of the truck, has a DPV of N100.8m.
Similarly, bags of packaged rice tucked away with disposable parks to carry, we are housed in three trucks with a total DPV of N34.5m.
The national coordinator, the CGC compliance team, Ahmed Azarena, who described the seizure as a chin, said the property was seized Sunday along the Benin-Lagos road.
Azarena, who said two people were arrested in connection with smuggling products, appealed to the perpetrators to seek a legitimate means of subsistence.
In describing those involved in smuggling as "Savers of the Economy," he said that these people, while enriching the outsiders, end up taking away work from their Nigerian counterparts.
According to him, "we ask you to seek a legitimate business environment and stop destroying the economy of this country. We are strong people and we must get involved in what we save our economy.
"With these activities, what these people do is take away our people's work by making other countries rich."
Azarena, who is the Comptroller's Office, said the Customs Service has a renewed mandate to stop the activities of economic saboteurs.
He said that the motivating factor is to save the country from the activities of these people.
