Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Speech at University of Edinburgh

Adichie was recentlhonored with an honorary degree at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. By accepting the award, Adichie gave a typically insightful and spiritual discourse on writing and feminism. She talked about writing her first love, and talking about what brings her to being an added benefit. She read an excerpt from her new book "Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions", which is a letter she wrote after being asked by a friend who just chatted with a baby how the child could be high feminist. "Teach Chizalum about the difference," said Adichie, reading the fifteenth suggestion. "Make the ordinary difference". "She must know and understand that people are going through different paths in this world, and that as long as these paths do not harm others, they are valid paths that must be respected," said the suggestion.
