Groups of young rivals fight for demolition of Ekeukwu market, injure many in Imo

Youths in the state of Imo, who oppose or support the demolition of the popular Ekeukwu market by the state government pledged to a free fight for everyone on Wednesday, and more than three people were injured in the process.  It was learned that the rapid intervention of the police prevented what would have degenerated into a bloodbath.  State Police Commissioner Christ Ezike, who confirmed the development, said three people were injured in the fighting, adding that they are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.  According to him, five vehicles were also destroyed in the clash that further increased the tension in Owerri. The police commissar said his men managed to restore normalcy in the city, but said the people were apprehensive about the retaliatory attack.
