Ava DuVernay is the 1st black woman to direct a live-action film with a budget of over $100 million.


Ava DuVernay of award winning movie, Selma, has hit big with her upcoming adaptation of 'A Wrinkle in Time' - becoming the first black woman to direct a live-action film with a budget of over $100 million.

The  DuVernay's project was included on a list of big-budget films receiving California tax incentives, with Deadline reporting that A Wrinkle in Time's budget hits $100 million.

She's the first woman of color and the third woman in history to be granted a big budget movie like this.

DuVernay also made history in 2012 as she became the first African-American woman to be named "Best Director" for Selma, at the distinguished Sundance Film Festival.
