Peace and Quiet: Man climbs 80ft TV tower to smoke Cigar, eat Snack & think

A man in Los-Angeles area climbed 80ft up an iconic TV tower, offseting a rescue operation. The man, , reportedly told rescuers he was just trying to find somewhere to think before tucking into a snack and lighting up a cigar.

Police say the man, who was wearing a baseball cap and Boston Celtics sweater, began climbing the KTLA tower at around 4.45pm on Wednesday.

Police, fire crews, and a mental health team were sent to the scene in an attempt to coax the man down, but when ladders were raised alongside the tower it only led to him climbing higher.

The man eventually perched on top of the KTLA 5 sign, and was seen standing on top of it without holding on to the tower.

Three large inflatable crash mats were set up on the ground in order to catch him if he jumped, while Sunset Boulevard was closed for six blocks from the 101 to Gower Street.

Apparently unaware or unconcerned with the drama unfolding beneath him, the man began checking his cell phone and even appeared to place a call.

At around 7.30pm the man descended down to a catwalk near the base of the tower where officers had placed some water before taking a drink. Half an hour later he made his way back down to the ground where he was pictured being handcuffed and arrested.
