Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice was sentenced today to 15 months in jail on a variety of fraud charges that totaled $4 million in monetary gain. She plead guilty to the offenses earlier this year. Her husband Joe was sentenced to 41 months.
“Judge Esther Salas said the sentences would be staggered, so when one is in prison, the other can take care of the couple’s four children,” reports Business Insider. That was kind of her.
According to reports from TMZ, Teresa made an emotional plea to the judge, asking for leniency and saying that she “can hear you and what you are saying” and that it’s time for her to “wake up.” So she didn’t know before that fraud is a crime. Now she gets it. OK. She didn’t even get the recommended 21 months, so she can consider herself lucky on that.
Teresa has to surrender to the authorities on January 5.
