Coronavirus in Nigeria: We’ve identified those who had contact with Italian patient - Lafarge

 Lafarge Africa Plc has announced that it has identified all those who had direct contact with the Italian man who is the first Coronavirus case in Nigeria.

In a statement released by the group's spokesperson Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, it was gathered that those identified, had direct contact with the Italian man after he visited the company's plant in Ewekoro, Ogun state.

Ogun State Government has confirmed reports that the Italian man diagnosed with Coronavirus, visited the state.

At a press conference held in Abeokuta, the state capital , the Commissioner for Health, Tomi Coker, said the Italian who is a consultant to Larfarge Africa Plc, had visited the cement factory in Ewekoro, Ogun State, on Tuesday February 25th, said the victim had developed fever and was treated at the clinic located in Lafarge facility, a cement factory. She explained that the Italian was rushed to Lagos on Wednesday February 26th when the case grew worse before it was confirmed that he had contracted Coronavirus.

“Smugglers Have Devised New Ways To Smuggle Products Into Nigeria” – NCS

Rice smuggled into Nigeria concealed in gas cylinders

The Coordinator, Joint Border Patrol, Zone 3 of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Muhammed Garba, has said smugglers have devised new methods of smuggling banned items into the country.
According to Garba, smugglers now hide rice and other contraband in bags containing yam flour or gas cylinders.
The NCS chief said they had earlier impounded 20 bags of yam flour, with  foreign rice hidden in some of them at the border route in Kwara State.
Addressing a press conference in Ilorin on February 26, the coordinator revealed that over 1, 346 bags of foreign rice loaded in three vehicles had been impounded in a joint border operation.
He stated that other items seized included used clothes, 57 units of vehicles, petroleum products, 16 motorcycles used for smuggling rice.

The coordinator added that guns, 85 cartridges as well as 325 cartons of banned cosmetics were recovered in border towns in Kwara and in Lokoja, Kogi State.
According to him, the command had been sensitizing commercial drivers on the need to obey the new rules on border closure.
He said;

Trump's son gets permit to hunt and kill Alaska grizzly bear

Donald Trump Jr has received a permit to hunt and kill a grizzly bear in Alaska, wildlife officials said.

The president’s eldest son was granted a permit on Monday to hunt north and east of Nome, Alaska later this year, according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Trump Jr was not given one of the limited number of ‘dignitary’ licenses and game tags that the Alaska governor may give out. Instead, he applied for one of the 27 licenses for out-of-state hunters in the area. Only two other hunters reportedly applied for the same permit.

Hunting permits near Nome are not in high demand due to the remoteness of the area and the high cost to travel there.

Federal Government working set to identify all who had contact with Italian man with coronavirus

As Nigeria confirmed first case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Lagos State, the Federal Ministry of Health said it has already commenced working to identify all the contacts of the patient since he entered Nigeria.

The ministry cautioned against the abuse of social media and spread of misinformation that causes fear and panic.

Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, in a statement, said that most people who become infected may experience only mild illness and recover easily, adding that it can be more severe in others, particularly the elderly and persons with other underlying chronic illnesses.

According to RRS who shared photos from the scene, the young man who tried to kill himself by jumping into the lagoon, however landed on floating logs of wood beneath the Third Mainland Bridge.

The victim was rescued but sustained varying degrees of injury. He was  rushed to the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, where he was later referred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

The cab driver when interrogated by RRS officials, said he picked the yet-to-be-identified man from Igando, a suburb of Lagos.
