Lagos Upgrades LASPOTECH, Two Colleges Of Education To University Status

Lagos state government has on December 30 announced to upgrade of Lagos state polytechnic and two colleges of education to university status.
The colleges are Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education.
LASPOTECH will now be known as Lagos State University of Science and Technology, while Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education are now Lagos State University of Education.
Recall that in July, Lagos House of Assembly debated two bills proposing the establishment of two tertiary institutions – a University of Education and a University of Science and Technology – in the state.
The bills scaled second reading on the floor of the House presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa.
Hon. Bisi Yusuff (Alimosho 1) argued that the bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the university of Education, Lagos (UNEDLAG) was important as he suggested that it should also have provision for pre-degree programmes.
Yusuff also noted a provision in the bill that would make graduates be somewhat independent rather than search for jobs.
“The inclusion of vocational training will also make the students to be self-employed,” he said.
On his part, Hon. Sani Okanlawon, said it had become important for Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education and Michael Otedola College of Education to be upgraded to a university.
He had expressed;
The society now rejects NCE and what is the benefit of going to a school that your certificate will not be recognised? Admission into this school is the lowest as only 18 applicants chose (ACCOED) as first choice in the last Universal Tertiary Matriculations Examinations (UTME).
With the creation of this varsity, it will reduce the number of applicants seeking admission to LASU.
Also contributing, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa 2), who agreed with his colleagues on the need to upgrade the two colleges of education in the state to a university, said the NCE is no longer popular.
In latest development, Tokunbo Philip Wahab, the Special Adviser on Education to the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, announced the upgrade of the three institutions to universities.
Speaking via his Facebook page, Wahab stated that the upgrade is now official, adding that the decision was made to “improve quality assurance and remove the dichotomy in employability of polytechnic graduates visa vis their counterpart in the university.”
His statement reads;
It’s official. In order to improve quality assurance and to remove the dichotomy in employability of polytechnic graduates visa vis their counterpart in the university, Lagos State Polytechnic is now Lagos State University of Science and Technology, while Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education are now Lagos State University of Education.

Deeper Life Pastor emerge as new Idoma Traditional ruler
A pastor of the Deeper Life Bible Church, John Elaigwu Odogbo, has emerged the new paramount traditional ruler of Idoma people in Benue State.
This followed the recent hunting expedition embarked on by the Ochi’Idoma IV, Dr Elias Ikoyi Obekpa in October, this year and the directive by Governor Samuel Ortom for the selection of a new Ochi’Idoma on December 30, 2021.
According to Daily Trust, Odogbo was said to have emerged with 19 votes out of total 28 votes cast in a keen contest at Otukpo.
Among the contestants were; a federal Permanent Secretary, Sonny Echono, who scored eight votes, and Andrew Idakwu, who left with only one vote.
Presenting the new Ochi’Idoma to Ortom at the Government House in Makurdi, supervising Commissioner of Information, Ekpe Ogbu, who is head of the selection team, said the exercise was conducted peacefully with the outcome of Pastor Odogbo as Och’Idoma elect.
Ogbu explained that out of a total 32 expected members of the selection committee, 28 were present, two have impending court cases and one indisposed health wise.
He added that five people had indicated interest to contest for the seat, noting that one voluntarily stepped down.
NFF appoints Jose Peseiro new Super Eagles coach..
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced Jose Peseiro a new permanent coach for Super Eagles, who will take over from interim coach Augustine Eguavoen.
The announcement was made in a communique issued after the virtual Executive Committee meeting of the body.
“After careful consideration of a memo presented by Chairman of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee, the Executive Committee endorsed a proposal for the appointment of Mr Jose Peseiro as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, following the end to the relationship with Mr Gernot Rohr.
“However, the Committee resolved that Mr Augustine Eguavoen, named the interim Head Coach, will lead the Super Eagles to the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon with Mr Peseiro only playing the role of Observer.
“It was unanimously agreed that the AFCON is a good avenue for Mr Peseiro to launch a working relationship with Mr Eguavoen, who will revert to his role as Technical Director, hence Mr Peseiro’s immediate boss after the tournament”.
Peseiro until his appointment was Venezuela coach.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, has clarified that candidates and visitors below the age of 18 years are not required to present COVID-19 vaccination cards before being granted access into JAMB examination halls and facilities.
A statement issued and signed by the head of JAMB’s media and
protocol unit, Fabian Benjamin, said those mandated to provide
vaccination cards are persons covered under the NCDC Vaccination policy.

Psquare reconcile Timaya and J Martins after 7 years of not ‘talking to each other’
Peter and Paul Okoye played a vital role last night in restoring peace among the two renowned musicians, Timaya and J Martins.
Psquare went on their knees to apologize to their fans all over the world because of their split reconciled the two legends after 7 years of acute quarrel.
In the video which depicted a scenario of peace being restored, Peter Okoye revealed that the two singers were not talking to each other for 7 years.
Timaya in response gave an assertion that amused the audience, he said:
