Oyo State Govt seeks information to locate Nigerian student reported missing in Turkey

The Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters to Oyo State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu,  drew attention to a Nigerian postgraduate student, Jamiu Adebayo Adekunle, who has been declared missing in Turkey since 2020.

The missing student from Iseyin, Oyo State, graduated from the University of Ilorin and then proceeded to Uskudar University, Istanbul, for his Master’s degree.

Speaking to journalists, Sarumi-Aliyu disclosed that the parents of the missing person had written a letter to the state government through the Diaspora Matters office, seeking assistance to find and return their son home safely.

 

In the letter written and signed by Jamiu Adebayo's parents, they explained that before their son got missing, he usually contacted them from time to time before the global outbreak of covid-19.

Despite ‘Friday’s’ status as a cult classic, it wasn’t a huge moneymaker for Chris Tucker, who played the character Smokey. 

 Friday fans still imitate Chris Tucker’s hilarious portrayal of Smokey, but many will be surprised by how much money he actually made from the role. Speaking with Shannon Sharpe on “Club Shay Shay,” Tucker revealed that although the cult classic has been praised as comedy gold for years, it wasn’t exactly a cash cow for those who signed onto the project. “It’s one of those things… it was just a small movie,” Tucker said. 

 

“We filmed it in 20 days. I got about $10,000 for it or whatever; I didn’t care. I wanted the opportunity.” While Sharpe was shocked that Tucker earned so little from the role, Tucker explained that the film’s whole budget was only $2 to $3 million. “It was either $2 million or $3 million to do,” he said. “I know we had 20 days [to film it] because they kept reminding me every day.” Tucker added that the production team also kept costs low by only giving actors two takes; meaning Tucker had to get his lines exactly right in just two tries or they would cut it from the script. “It was that small of a movie, but that was the beauty of it,” he added. “It allowed me to get into character. It wasn’t no big distractions like big movie sets. You got light people and sound people and everybody wanna be a star. But that movie was just a camera and me and [Ice] Cube on the porch. Magic came out of it, thank God.” Tucker also reminisced about working with his “best friend” Faizon Love, who played Big Worm. “The beauty about the scene with me and Big Worm, me and Faizon Love, was we were best friends,” he said. “So, we clowned around all day every day, going to comedy clubs at night. So, it was really easy to work with him… because we were friends.” Tucker also called Bernie Mac, who played Pastor Clever, one of 

 

his “heroes” and described what it was like working with the beloved John Witherspoon and Ice Cube. “Watching John Witherspoon and growing up with Cube’s music… every time I was with them I was excited and it was just easy to do,” he said. Tucker added that at the time of filming, he had no idea that Friday would blow up to be the comedy classic that it’s now revered as. “Sometimes when God bless you, man, he bless you more than you can even dream and that was one of those things,” he said. Coca-Cola launched coffee in a can aptly titled Coca-Cola with Coffee in the US this week after several years of offering it abroad and testing similar combinations stateside like Coca-Cola Blak.

The new blend is branded as a “refreshment coffee” that “sips like a coke and finishes like a coffee.”

“Many people are often torn between reaching for a soft drink or a coffee at 3 p.m. at work, at school or on the go,” Brandon Strickland, brand director of Coca-Cola Trademark, said in a statement. “Now, you don’t need to leave Coca-Cola to get your coffee fix.”

The caffeine-packed beverage was first launched in 2018 in Japan. The US is the 50th market — and largest — to get it, the company said. 

Coca-Cola is teaming up with Walmart in the US in a pilot to deliver the new product via drone in Coffee County, Ga, the company said.

Coca-Cola with Coffee is made from Brazilian beans and comes in three flavors in 12 oz cans: Dark Blend, Vanilla and Caramel – and its zero-sugar brand.

T.I. Criticizes Atlanta Councilwoman Who Wanted Tighter Restrictions on Recording Studios

Atlanta City Council member Felicia Moore wanted to place restrictions on recording studios due to noise complaints, and T.I. is having none of it.

AJC reports that Moore has recently started to gear up for a run for Atlanta mayor, which prompted T.I. to offer up why he has doubts she’d be good for the job. In 2017, she introduced an ordinance that would have required all newly built recording studios to be “300 feet or farther from residential areas,” and would also force any studios to obtain a special use permit. The ordinance was rejected, and Moore was the only council member who voted for it.

Catching wind of her potential run for mayor, T.I. expressed his concerns in a lengthy Instagram post. “Our Culture Runs This Town Ma’am??” he wrote. “These studios (& the creatives that work in em) have laid foundation & paved ways to create opportunities for this city like nothing else could. Yeah we might get loud, no we not perfect, but we’ve contributed to this city’s culture & economic growth, consistently…for decades!!! Our contributions to the communities here in this city have gone overlooked far too long. ”

He went on to highlight that Atlanta musicians, and rappers in particular, have been at the forefront of Atlanta’s culture even before it became an ideal filming location for TV shows and movies. “We’ve BEEN making an economic impact yet the film studios receive all the tax benefits, rebates & considerations,” he added. “Within the culture there’s a host of producers,engineers, art directors, event planners, club & studio designers, radio personalities, A&Rs, DJ’s , dancers, promoters, & club owners who’ve put ALL OUR HEART & SOUL into making this city what it is TODAY?? Put some respect on that please & thanks.”

Moore will face off against incumbent Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms if they both run this year, and T.I. previously backed the latter in the 2017 mayoral race. 📎

Spike Lee is accepted an honorary award at the 86th annual New York Film Critics Circle Awards on Sunday and blasted Donald Trump in his speech.

The “Da 5 Bloods” director Lee filmed his acceptance speech on Jan. 6, “a very sad day in the history of America,” when pro-Trump rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol building.

“You know what, we are living in a very serious time in America. All of us as true Americans have to really think about what’s important,” said Lee. “There’s no way possible to go before the iPhone and thank you guy without telling you what’s in my heart and soul as a descendent of slaves who helped build this country.”

“The whole world is laughing at the United States, the so-called cradle of democracy,” he added.

“We’re at the crossroads now. And everyone please be safe, this is not a game. These people got guns with ammunition,” said Lee. “This president, President Agent Orange, will go down in history with the likes of Hitler. These guys, all his boys, they are going down on the wrong side of history.”

Percy “Master P” Miller expands his business empire with a new innovative venture. The entertainment mogul announced this week that he will be creating his own line of supercars with the help of a former Tesla engineer.

Trion SuperCars is the creation of Miller and Richard Patterson, a former engineer who designed Tesla’s Model S car in addition to helping design the Boeing 777 and the Dodge minivan. The company would be the first Black-owned company of its kind. He is the first Black-owned supercar manufacturer in the country.

Among the highlights of the brief clip, available above via YouTube, is the reveal of the theme—Icy Park—and some fittingly snow-heavy shots of Gucci Mane. A Women’s Wear Daily report from Monday adds some key details about what fans can expect, including that the new collection will include five new styles of shoes. Among those, per the report, is an update to the Ivy Park Ultra Boost and other models, as well as an all-new Super Sleek Boot. Gucci Mane, Hailey Bieber and Kaash Paige are a part of Beyoncé's new #ICYPARK collection.

 

 The underlying aesthetic narrative of the collection is centered around the idea of incorporating alpine-inspired facets into streetwear staples.

Chinese coy overpays Nigerian woman while trying to underpay her and she returns the excess

A Nigerian woman has been praised after she paid back the excess money a Chinese company paid into her account.

The woman had paid 41 thousand Naira for a product. However, they didn't have the product and they agreed to pay her back but were reluctant to pay the entire money.

Rather than pay her back N41K, they said they would only pay her N38K.

After going back and forth, she eventually agreed to accept the thirty-eight thousand Naira.

However, she got an alert for N38 million. Apparently, the company mistakenly added more zeros.

Despite the initial disagreement between them, she sent back the money they mistakenly paid to her after bank charges had been deducted.

Because of her exemplary action, the Chinese company had a change of heart and paid her the complete N41K they owe her.

The singer revealed he had an elder daughter with with a woman from Mwanza, Tanzania, adding that Latiffa, his daughter with Zari, is not his first born.

"I think up to now I have 6 children. One of them is in Mwanza but her mother doesn't want to give her to me. I have another one here in Dar es Salaam. She is older than Tiffah. S o I guess I have 6 children" he said. 

The singer shares two children, a girl and a boy, Latiffa and Nilla with Zari. His son Dylan, was sired with Hamisa and the last child, Naseeb Junior  by Tanasha.

Presidency slams Transparency International over Nigeria’s poor corruption rating; says it is not an accurate portrayal of Nigeria's situation

The Nigerian presidency has fired back at Transparency International over its recent Corruption Perception Index which placed Nigeria 149 out of the 180 countries surveyed.

The new data which showed that Nigeria dropped three places and scored lower in number of points than in the previous year’s record, suggested that the country's corruption situation had worsened.

However in a statement released by presidential spokesman Garba Shehu, the presidency insisted that it is not an accurate portrayal of the facts on the ground.  

Shehu also said the Buhari administration is currently “analyzing the sources of data” used in preparing the report.

2 brothers arrested with 6 other suspected internet fraudsters in Osogbo (Photos)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office, on Thursday, January 28, 2021, arrested eight men suspected to be internet fraudsters in Osogbo, Osun State.

The suspects, identified as Akinrinmade Adepoju Sunday and his brother Akinrinmade Adeniyi were arrested in their room and parlor apartment. Others are Dennis Oluwamuyiwa, Oni Oluwaseyi, Adeyemo Adeyinka, Aborisade Abayomi, Goodluck Olatayo, and Gbolahan Sodiq.

A Swiss lawyer has revealed how he helped the Nigerian government recover  billions of dollars stolen by the late General Sabi Abacha.

After looting Nigeria's reserves, Abacha who ruled from 1993 until his death in 1998, died before spending his loot, prompting an international treasure hunt that has lasted for decades. 

Enrico Monfrini, said he received a phone call in September 1999 from former Nigeria president Olusegun Obasanjo asking if he could help recover the stolen funds.

Shawn Southwick King has said that the TV icon died of sepsis, not his recent battle with coronavirus.

The journalist died last Saturday in Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, two weeks after being moved out of intensive care, where he was being treated after testing positive for Covid-19.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, his widow revealed his cause of death, saying: "It was an infection, it was sepsis. Well, he was finally ready to go, I will tell you that.

"You know, he never wanted to go but his sweet little body was just, it had just been hit so many times with so many things and once we heard the word Covid, all of our hearts just sank."
