Anthony Hopkins, 83, becomes the oldest star to ever win Best Actor Award at the 2021 Oscars.
The 83-year-old actor won the Best Actor honor at Sunday’s Academy Awards for his starring role in ‘The Father’.
The Welsh
actor made history on the 25th of April, with his 2nd Oscar victory,
becoming the oldest star to ever win an Academy Award for Best Actor
award, after becoming the oldest Best Actor nominee when the 2021 Oscar
nominations were announced in March.
Anthony Hopkins out fellow nominees Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal),
Chadwick Boseman (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Gary Oldman (Mank), and
Steven Yeun (Minari).
In 2012, Anthony, whose film Hitchcock was getting Oscar buzz, told
the Huffington Post he was not interested in the awards circuit.
He said, “Having to be nice to people and to be charming and
flirting with them…oh, come on! People go out of their way to flatter
the nominating body and I think it’s kind of disgusting.
That’s always been against my nature. People groveling around and
kissing the backsides of famous producers and all that. It makes me want
to throw up, it really does.”
